Two ICE agents shot

Two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were shot in the line of duty today approximately 100 miles outside Mexico City Tuesday. One of the officers has died from his wounds, reports the Associated Press, quoting an anonymous official. A U.S. Embassy spokesman in Mexico City tells CBS News the two agents were shot while driving from Mexico City to Monterey by unknown assailants.
"ICE is working with the U.S. State Department, Mexican authorities and other U.S. law enforcement partners to investigate the shooting. Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues," ICE officials said in a statement this afternoon.
Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano condemned the attacks.

cooper attacked again

Anderson Cooper has been attacked again! The CNN journalist has once again tweeted that his life was in danger. Protestors threatened to behead Cooper and the other passengers in the vehicle. Today he tweeted, "The situation on ground in #Egypt very tense.  Vehicle I was in attacked.  My window smashed.  All ok."
Anderson Cooper has been attacked by supporters of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo, reports CNN.
Anderson Cooper, the CNN newsreader and television presenter, was set upon by a pro-Mubarak gang and 'punched in the head ten times', according to journalist Steve Brusk.

New smuggling ploy – catapults

Two alleged narcotics traffickers aligned with a right-wing paramilitary terrorist organization in Colombia have been convicted of conspiring to import multi-ton quantities of cocaine into the United States.

Christian Fernando Borda and Alvaro Alvaran-Velez were extradited from Colombia a year ago and were convicted by a federal jury Thursday.

The Justice Department said Borda led an organization that obtained cocaine from paramilitary groups and smuggled in more than 1,500 tons in drums of palm oil from Colombia in 2005, with additional shipments in 2005 and 2006. The department said Alvaran-Velez, an associate of Borda, facilitated cocaine shipments.

They were allied with Autodefenses Unidas de Colombia, an umbrella group for far-right paramilitary groups that has been designated by the State Department as a foreign terrorist organization.
